Why Faith Is More Than Positive Thinking
Why Faith Is More Than Positive Thinking
Many people confuse biblical faith with positive thinking. While both involve hope and expectation, they are not the same.
Positive thinking says:"I believe things will work out."
Biblical faith says:
"I trust God regardless of how things look."
Positive thinking depends on optimism.
Faith depends on God.
Hebrews 11:1 tells us:
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
Faith isn't pretending problems don't exist. It isn't ignoring reality or speaking empty affirmations into the air.
Faith acknowledges reality while believing God's Word has the final authority.
When David stood before Goliath, he didn't deny the giant's size. He simply knew that God's power was greater than the giant's strength.
When Peter stepped onto the water, he wasn't confident in himself. He trusted the One who called him.
Real faith grows from hearing God's Word.
Romans 10:17 reminds us:
"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
If we spend more time feeding on fear than feeding on Scripture, our faith will weaken.
Here are three practical ways to strengthen biblical faith:
- Read God's Word every day.
- Pray with expectation, trusting God's character.
- Obey what God says, even when you don't understand His timing.
Faith is not wishful thinking.
Faith is confidence in a faithful God.
As you continue your journey, remember this: your circumstances may change, but God's promises never do.
